The Kentucky State Police Post 12 responded to the 2000 block of US 62 in Anderson County in reference to a fatal hit and run incident involving a pedestrian today December 15, 2023. A male individual, Benjamin Carpenter (30 years old) from Lawrenceburg was pronounced deceased on scene by the Anderson County Coroner’s Office. Through the investigation, William Barnett of Lawrenceburg, was identified as the operator of the vehicle that struck Mr. Carpenter.
William Barnett has been charged with the following charges and lodged in the Shelby County Detention Center.
- leaving the scene of an accident with death or serious physical injury
- Failure of owner to maintain insurance 2nd offense
- Failure to register transfer of motor vehicle
- Failure to notify the Department of Transportation of an address change
Kentucky State Police was assisted on scene by the Anderson County Sheriffs Office, Anderson County Coroners Office, The Anderson County Fire Department, and State Highway Department.
The investigation is still ongoing at his time.
