Four Asbury University students had to be rescued this afternoon by Kentucky State Police after camping last night in the Red River Gorge.
Kristin Gousse, information officer for the Powell County Search and Rescue team, says they got this call this morning. Four students had hiked up to Courthouse Rock on Sunday and woke up snow covered this morning. They realized they would not be able to climb back down due to the weather conditions and not having proper climbing equipment.
Rescue teams decided it was to treacerous for them to attempt as well and KSP was contacted. They flew in a helicopter and sucessfully landed to rescue the students.
All were taken to the landing pad at Meadowfork Fire Department landing zone in Stanton and were evaluated by Powell County EMS this afternoon. All are expected to be fine.
