Kentucky Ranked Dead Last Nationwide for Weakest Animal Protection Laws

On the heels of Monday’s story where an Estill County search and rescue bloodhound was shot to death, a recent report shows that Kentucky is in last place when it comes to strong animal protection laws.

The annual report, published by the Animal Legal Defense Fund, looks at each state’s strengths and weaknesses when it comes to animal cruelty laws and cases. At the moment, state lawmakers have yet to pass statutes that are already in place in most other states, including those against sexual abuse of animals and felony convictions only cover certain species. Utah, Iowa, Mississippi, and then Kentucky are ranked in dead last by the legal advocacy for animals group.
