Irvine man arrested in Jackson County murder investigation

On Wednesday night, Kentucky State Police made an arrest in connection with the ongoing investigation into the murder of an Irvine man. 

On May 18, 2025, Kentucky State Police, received a call from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department requesting investigative assistance in regards to a deceased male located inside a vehicle on Richardson Road in McKee.

The KSP’s preliminary investigation revealed that 40-year-old James D. Carmack of Irvine sustained a fatal gunshot wound inflicted by an unknown individual who fled the scene before law enforcement’s arrival.

As a result of the ongoing investigation, 24-year-old James S. Bergman of Irvine was taken into custody and lodged in the Three Forks Detention Center. Bergman is currently charged with Murder, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Abuse of Corpse.

The investigation remains ongoing by KSP Detective David Hobbs.
