According to a story by WLEX, in late March of this year an installer for Metronet attempted to steal sensitive photos of an adult nature from a woman’s phone during a service call in Lexington. According to the victim, she stated upon arriving at her home, the Metronet installer asked for her phone “to check the internet connection.” Thinking this was standard protocol, the woman gave the phone to the installer.
The installer went to another room, then allegedly started sending the photos to his own cell phone. What he didn’t know, was the woman’s Apple watch was sending her notifications of his actions. The woman notified her husband of what was occurring, and he called police. When police confronted the man, he reportedly admitted to sending 4 images and 2 photos to his personal cell phone.
Lexington police have identified the man as Robert Chandler. Chandler has been charged with distribution of sexually explicit images without consent and unlawful access to a computer fourth degree. The husband of the woman stated Metronet was initially helpful, but since then, he and his wife have not heard anything from them. He said they did receive one thing from the company, a bill for the service call.
Metronet has issued this statement:
“In late March, we were made aware of a disturbing allegation regarding a contractor working on our behalf. We immediately shared that allegation with the contract company and the contractor was terminated. We stand ready to cooperate fully with local law enforcement to assist them in their investigation of this matter. The contractor’s alleged behavior was unacceptable. We will be reaching out to our customer to work with them on this matter.”
