A happy ending tonight in the saga of “Sadam” the missing tortoise in Berea.
Many people joined in the search for Sadam as he was not likely to survive the freezing temperatures predicted for overnight. Sadam is a Sulcata, African tortoise, and is not cut out for cold temps. These tortoises can live to be 50 years or longer in the proper climate.
Sadam’s owner, Susan Byrne Haddix, told WBON a group had just taken a break from the cold drizzle and search this afternoon. That’s when they got word a neighbor, nearly a mile away, had discovered the tortoise in some weeds under trees on her property a little after five o’clock. This was in the vicinity of Smith Lane in Berea.
You can see on the map Sadam had traveled nearly 3/4 of a mile, since escaping his pen on Sunday. His location is denoted by the red dot.
Miss Haddix says lots of people turned out to help search for Sadam, and for that she is eternally grateful.
Another good Samaritan has also offered to fix Sadam’s “pen” to keep him from escaping again.
