On Friday August 25, 2017 around 7:50 p.m., Deputy Paul Lay was dispatched to a non-injury hit and run collision on White Hall Shrine Road.
While responding to the collision, Deputy Lay witnessed the run vehicle from the collision merging onto Interstate 75 south bound from Boonesboro Road. After a brief pursuit, Deputy Lay was able to get the vehicle stopped and the driver was arrested without incident.
According to Madison County Sheriff Mike Coyle, Diana Merz, 64, of Richmond was charged with Leaving Scene of Accident, Reckless Driving, DUI 1st (Aggravating Circumstance), Fleeing or Evading Police 1st Degree (Motor Vehicle), Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree, and Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Degree 1st Offense (Drug Unspecified).
Merz was lodged in the Madison County Detention Center.
