Tuesday night saw a big law enforcement effort dispatched to stop a vehicle. Mount Vernon Police units, acting on a request from Madison County, spotted a wanted subject and vehicle in their jurisdiction. When they attempted to stop the subject, they report the vehicle got back on I-75 Northbound and refused to stop as law enforcement pursued the subject.
Madison County Sheriff’s Department along with Berea Police and Kentucky State Police then joined the pursuit. Reportedly, the subject struck a Berea Police unit near the 76-mile point. This resulted in damage to the subject vehicle including a flat tire, which caused the vehicle to run on the bare rim for a long way before law enforcement contained the subject and scene at the 83-mile marker of the interstate.
Arrested was 62-year-old Byron Watson of Frankfort. Watson faces several charges including wanton endangerment of a police officer 1st degree, speeding, fleeing, possession of handgun by a felon, and operating under the influence. Watson was lodged in the Madison County Detention Center.
