The City of Stanton Police Department is warning citizens and other jurisdictions of a scam being reported across the country involving fraudulent kidnapping phone calls. The perpetrator calls parents and potential guardians advising they have kidnapped their child, grandchild, or loved one, and are holding them hostage at a nearby department store (i.e. Wal-Mart). The perpetrators even, on some instances, will have a person screaming for help in the background. Then the fraudsters demand money for the safe return of their loved one.
As parents ourselves, we can understand how scary this news can be. If you receive a phone call such as this, please do not hesitate to contact the City of Stanton Police Department or your local law enforcement office to make contact with your loved one to verify their safety.
