Welcome home Damien Harris! Thank you for hosting your inaugural football camp in Richmond, your hometown, this Saturday, July 13, and Sunday, July 14.
For this football fan who was born in Alabama and lived most of my life in Kentucky, it only seemed fitting that I could ride out to Madison Central to see Damien in action at his football camp.
Yes, Damien Harris is one of my favorite football players. For those who know me, you know I do have a few other favorite Alabama football stars who made it to the NFL. Must say, Bart Star was my first favorite player who was the star quarterback of the Green Bay Packers who won Super Bowl I and II. Next, it was Joe “Willie” Namath who led the Jets to the Super Bowl III Championship. Let’s not forget Kenny “Snake” Stabler, the winner of Super Bowl XI over the Minnesota Vikings.
Now, let’s get back to Damien Harris. Damien almost became the first Alabama halfback to rush for 1,000 yards three straight years. Damien fell short of rushing for 1,000 yards his senior year with 876, only 124 short of the 1,000-yard mark. As a sophomore, Damien rushed for 1,040 yards, and as a junior with 1,000 yards. Damien is #9 in the all-time rushing leaders at Alabama with 3,070 yards.
Again, thank you Damien Harris for coming back to Richmond, Kentucky and hosting your inaugural free football camp. Kudos to all those who attended the football camp and fought off the hot and humid summer day in Richmond. Also, thank you to football coaches and friends of Damien who helped teach at the football camp.
