Groundbreaking Marks Expansion of Madison County Internet Service

If you reside in some of the most rural parts of Madison County, high speed internet may be coming your way soon. Today Spectrum representatives along with county and state officials held a press briefing and ceremonial ground breaking to mark the expansion of internet service to areas like Newby, Jig Water, Bear Waller, Poosey, Speedwell Road/Brassfield, Valley View & others.

The new internet service will offer a gigabit of fiber internet to around 1100 new Madison County residents who have been deemed to be in the most underserved when it comes to high speed internet service. This new local build out is part of a national incentive that provided grants to cable providers to extend high speed internet to rural and underserved areas across the country.

Many local residents found it extremely difficult to comply with at home schooling requirements for their children during the covid pandemic when many schools systems did not have in school classes, because of no or poor internet access.

Map areas in blue indicate build out areas. Stay tuned for the Live at Five newscast to get the full story with video of the groundbreaking ceremony.
