A former pastor has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a child more than 40 years ago in Estill County. Attorney General Coleman announced that a jury convicted 60-year-old Samuel McKinney of first-degree rape against a child under 12.
The victim, now 50 years old, reported the abuse in 2023 after learning McKinney was a pastor in Irvine. She alleged the abuse occurred monthly from May 1982 to December 1985, ending when she was about 11 years old.
The jury recommended a 20-year sentence. Under Kentucky law, McKinney will be required to serve 85% of that sentence before parole eligibility. He will also be required to register as a sex offender.
