Saturday was the first annual Rich City Comic and Pop Con. The con was organized by Tom Sulfridge who has attended many cons in the past and wanted to start a new one in Richmond to support local artist and businesses. 70 booths were set up for local artists and vendors to show off their work. There was also a cosplay contest. Costume play or cosplay for short is hobby where you create a costume of your favorite characters from movies, comics, or other media forms. Ryan Gastinger and Kim Taylor are known as the cosplay couple were dressed as Orcs, fictional humanoid creatures that were originally created by author J.R.R Tolkien in his book The Lord of the Rings and have continued to appear in pop culture since. The couple spent weeks working on their costumes and many of the parts were hand made. They told us that cosplaying is a hobby for everyone no matter age or budget. All it takes is to have a favorite character that you want to make a costume of.
