Officials at the Powell County Detention Center say they became aware of a possible inappropriate relationship between a Powell County Corrections Officer and an inmate. The facility started a full investigation, along with the Stanton Police Department, into that correction officer, 54-year-old Christine Spencer.
They say the investigation found sufficient evidence to charge Spencer and she was placed into custody by Jailer Powell County Jailer Teddy Lacy. The officer was then transported to the Clark County Detention Center. Spencer was charged with sexual abuse 1st degree.
Jailer Lacy released the following statement on the Powell County Detention Center Facebook page:
“I want it to be known that the public doesn’t have to worry about placing their trust in this institution. Our facility takes our responsibility to the law, the State of Kentucky and the citizens of Powell County very seriously both inside and outside of our walls. If one of my deputies does something like this, I will put the cuffs on them personally, and transport them to another facility.”
The Commonwealth Attorney’s Office of the 39th Judicial Circuit is assisting in the investigation, which remains ongoing.
