The father of a 57-day old baby has been taken into custody after admitting to shaking the infant to the point where it became unresponsive and has brain bleed.
According to Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, 27-year-old Christopher Caldwell was arrested on Thursday after his alleged admission to the abuse. The police report details that on Monday, January 18th deputies and EMS were dispatched to a complaint of an unresponsive baby off Monhollen Drive in southern Laurel County.
When deputies arrived at the scene, CPR was administered on the baby and a deputy was credited with saving the infant’s life. The child was then transported to Baptist Healthcare for treatment and later transferred to UK Medical Center. The baby was diagnosed with brain bleed at the hospital.
Police continue that Caldwell was interviewed and admitted that he shook the baby in an aggressive manner to make the baby stop crying. Caldwell was charged with first-degree assault and was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
