Richmond Police recently responded to a call regarding the location of a vehicle that was reported stolen out of Louisiana.
When the officer arrived to the residence in question, he made contact with Thomas Lutton III, who advised the officer the vehicle was a rental vehicle. Though Lutton was able to produce a rental record for the car, the record reportedly stated that the agreement had ended hours earlier that day and that the return location was in Louisiana.
When Lutton began being Mirandized by the officer, he stated that this father had rented the vehicle for him and that he also had renewed the lease. According to the citation, Lutton then stated that he had planned on leaving later that day to return the car to Louisiana.
Upon searching the vehicle, police allegedly discovered a plastic baggie containing a white powdery substance as well as a “crystal-like substance known to be Methamphetamine” in the car’s center console. When the officer asked Lutton about the substances in question, Lutton reportedly stated that he did not use drugs “due to his diabetes”.
Lutton was arrested and transported to the Madison County Detention Center where he was charged with Receiving Stolen Property ($10,000 or More) and 1st Degree Possession of a Controlled Substance.
