Estill County Schools and thousands of residents and businesses were impacted Tuesday because of water main breaks in the county. The vast impacts were to West and South Irvine customers served by Estill County Water District #1.
Estill County Schools dismissed early on Tuesday, citing two county schools were without water, West Irvine and South Irvine. Students were dismissed at 9:30 am, shortly after arriving to class.
The water district issued a boil water advisory as of 11:00 am Tuesday morning that remains in effect.
Water District work crews continue working on resolving the issue tonight. They issued a statement around 8:30 tonight stating the water was now completely shut off to all impacted customers for a faulty valve to be replaced. Water is expected to be restored this evening, and Estill County Schools are currently planning on resuming regular class schedules on Wednesday.
The boil water advisory continues in effect. It is recommended that customers boil for three minutes any tap water they intend to use for consumption — such as for drinking, cooking, or making ice. After boiling water, customers should let the water cool before consuming it.
Please make sure to follow these steps until the water district lifts the advisory. WBON-TV9 is following developments and will update when the advisory is lifted.
