Estill County Sheriff Chris Flynn has been bestowed with the Humane Society of the United States Law Enforcement award for his work to fight and defeat animal cruelty.
The prestigious award is given to law enforcement officers, who organizers say, go above and beyond to help protect animals.
Animal activists and rescues often express disappointment with law enforcement and Kentucky laws that fall short in their eyes of the penalties associated with animal neglect. Sheriff Flynn not only has demonstrated his compassion in these type situations, but he has also completed specialized training from the United States Humane Society for those kinds of cases.
Flynn and his office shut down a large puppy mill operation last year. Flynn is also known to personally take animals for spay and neutering to help do all he can to help the exploding dog and cat population.
Flynn says he takes animal cruelty very seriously and wants to do what he can to be part of the solution.
