Democratic candidate for Secretary of State Jason Belcher came in for a two minute sit-down during his travels campaigning across the Commonwealth.
The former flight commander in the US Air Force also told WBONtv that he has a degree in History from University of Kentucky and a Masters in Science in International Relations from Troy University.
Belcher has served as an advisor to two U.S. Senate campaigns and is a nationally published author with the Huffington Post.
His awards from his time serving in the Air Force include the Iraq Campaign Medal, U.S. Air Force Expeditionary Service Medal, National Defense Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal among others.
Blecher says that his number one priority if elected is to solving the issue of low voter turnout. He elaborates that voting is the core of our democracy, and the office of Secretary of State has the lead role in ensuring that elections are running smoothly and accurately.
One of the ways Belcher says he plans to solve the current voting woes would be to implement electronic voting from smart phones. He says that the technology is already available, it is just a matter of getting the ball rolling at the statewide level.
Another issue Belcher touches on during his interview is what he says is lack of civility in the election process, especially across party lines. He adds that no matter what side of the aisle candidates and voters are on, that all should get along.
