Democratic candidate for Governor Rocky Adkins says he learned much in his days playing basketball as a point guard for Morehead State University that transfers into politics.
The former Kentucky House Majority leader says he is coachable, and does not claim to be an expert on all topics, which he states is exactly what Kentucky needs to head the state.
Adkins has been representing the 99th District of the Kentucky House since 1987 for Elliott, Lewis, and Rowan Counties, and has since also been the chamber’s Minority Floor Leader.
He admonishes current Governor Matt Bevin, and says that his policy, especially when it comes to education and pensions, is the exact opposite of what Kentuckians want and need. Adkins notes that the Governor personally attacks him on social media because he knows that he is a formidable opponent in this election.
When it comes to the drug epidemic, Adkins says there needs to be options for those that are addicted, obviously stretching beyond one and done incarceration.
He adds that the CASPER system that was set up is helping ease doctor shopping issues and those trying to procure drugs. When it comes to overdose, Adkins says this is an issue that touches all peoples lives in some way or another, and he wants to learn from Kentuckians first hand to try and solve this epidemic.
Adkins reiterates that it is paramount that the Governor needs to actively listen to those on the front lines, whether it be public workers suffering from pension woes or those pained by the drug epidemic. One of the ways to fund the pension system, he adds, would be to being medical marijuana to the state.
Overall, Adkins finishes by saying that he is a middle of the road candidate that can cross the aisle for voters to bring common sense back to the Commonwealth.
