Candidate for Richmond City Commission Tyler Johnson rounds out the two minute sitdowns with candidates for the city’s election 2018 coverage, and came in to talk about his downtown business he owns, as well as his experience in grant writing.
Johnson received both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s from Eastern Kentucky University, and says that he has always had an interest in politics. He also worked under the City Manager in Frankfort while he was in school, in which he explains he learned a lot about how city government works, and how to properly communicate the needs of the community.
We discussed his wishes to expand the tax base out, re-enter the Kentucky Main Street program, and assisting city police and fire departments.
Johnson also added that his experience with owning his own business taught him a lot about balancing a budget, paying taxes, and charging taxes. He says that it is not about raising those taxes, but instead attracting more people to the area and creating a better business environment for Richmond.
