Local business owner and volunteer firefighter Dustin Sweet came in for a two minute sitdown, and helped dispel some myths about the job of Constable that many may not fully understand.
Sweet says the position he hopes to get elected to was vacated after the death of the previous Constable for District 1 in Southern Madison County, JB Marcum. The position had been held by Marcum for over 40 years.
Sweet says when trained right, the position is of utmost importance as Constables aid other local law enforcement agencies. He says he is extremely dedicated to serving people, which is what initially drew him to run for the office.
Sweet added that constables are non-salaried which means they are a very valuable asset at no cost to the taxpayers.
During his sitdown we also discussed the growing drug epidemic, and his wishes to help educate school children in this area to hopefully fend off addiction.
We also spoke on understaffing of law enforcement in Madison County’s rural areas at night, and he cites his two children as part of the reason he wishes to continue the fight against drugs, and bullying in schools.
