When EKU Football handed the reigns of the program over to Walt Wells it was expected that there would be a culture change as they looked to get back to the tradition that was established under Roy Kidd. From the opening press conference Wells made sure that his players were put first and despite taking a step back last year and missing the playoffs, the team did win their conference and compete in the postseason in 2022.
One of the things implemented under Wells is something that has become an annual event held each Spring known as “Suits for Seniors.” This event is something that allows Juniors and Seniors the opportunity to receive a custom-made suit from Cuff to Collar in Richmond, plus the experience of going through a job fair in which they interview with local business managers with the chance of possibly landing a job after college, if professional football isn’t an option.
The event doesn’t end there. That night, while the players are resting up for the Spring Game the following day, former EKU football players, supporters of the program and many within the athletics department will gather at a host site (Chenault Vineyards) to enjoy dinner, drinks, and a fundraiser to raise money for the suits and other football team needs. There are several silent and live auction items to bid on plus a reverse raffle that gives one lucky winner a shot at winning $10,000.
This year’s event will be held on April 26th at Chenault Vineyards in Richmond and for more information contact Savannah Brunty at savannah.brunty@eku.edu
