Long time Eastern Kentucky University play by play announcer Greg Stotelmyer was inducted into the Kentucky Broadcasters Hall of Fame Monday night. Stotelmyer was presented the honor at the Kentucky Broadcasters annual convention in Covington.
Stotelmyer, who is in his 45th season covering the Colonels, began calling EKU football and basketball games in 1979. During his time at EKU, he has provided the play-by-play on more than 660 Colonel football games and 1,200 men’s basketball games. His EKU broadcast career includes 41 years on the radio network and four seasons in the mid-1980s broadcasting television replays of EKU home games. He also produced and hosted weekly television shows for several football and basketball coaches, beginning with legendary football coach Roy Kidd.
Stotelmyer also serves as the lead announcer for ESPN+ streaming broadcasts of Colonel soccer, volleyball, baseball, and softball in addition to football and men’s basketball.
From 1979 through 1986, Stotelmyer worked at Wallingford Medias WEKY-AM as the station’s News and Sports Director, then served for 25 years as a reporter at WTVQ TV, where he hosted his award-winning feature “Kentucky Backroads.”
During his career, Stotelmyer has amassed seven Emmy awards from The Ohio Valley Chapter of The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in addition to various other honors, including an Edward R. Murrow award. In 2016, Stotelmyer was the recipient of the Ohio Valley Conference Media Award.
