Thursday afternoon around 4 p.m. EKU issued an emergency alert stating that a suspicious item had been found at the Model Laboratory School following dismissal of classes and ordered an immediate evacuation of the area. Everyone left at model was evacuated. The public was advised to avoid the area of Model School. EKU Police headed up the investigation and brought in EKU’s bomb detection K9 to assist and evaluate the concerning item. Richmond Police Department was requested to assist with traffic control during the investigation. Around an hour and half later, the University stated the situation was resolved and the emergency condition at Model had passed and said staff and residents could resume normal activities.
Now sources close to that investigation tell WBON it appears the entire matter was a senior prank, and one student may be facing very serious consequences as a result of causing such a public alarm.
