Ed Miracle Scholarship Foundation hosts golf scramble at Battlefield

Each year since 2013, Donna Miracle and Glen Miracle have paid tribute to her husband and his father, Coach Ed Miracle, by hosting a golf scramble and dinner in Lynch, Kentucky and a second golf scramble and dinner in Richmond, Kentucky.

Today, several teams teed up the little white ball and braved the heat and humidity at the Battlefield Golf Course in support of the Ed Miracle Scholarship Foundation.

The Ed Miracle Scholarship Foundation has awarded over 50 scholarships to students from Madison Central High School or Harlan County High School since 2013. Students are not required to be an athlete or have a specific GPA. Scholarship recipients are recommended by their school advisors. In addition, recipients may use the scholarship funds toward tuition or for any college need including a laptop computer, textbooks, or other related expenses.

Ed Miracle won 4 state titles at Lynch High School in Harlan County and coached football and basketball. Then Coach served Madison Central as either football coach, basketball coach, or athletic director until his retirement in 1992. Some say, Coach Miracle also was the golf professional at the Madison Country Club where he loved to play golf with his many friends including Coach Roy Kidd.

Ed Miracle was a star running back at Middlesboro High School in Bell County and played football at Eastern Kentucky State College alongside Roy Kidd. Coach Miracle’s roots run deep in Madison County and Eastern Kentucky.

Smitty’s Southern Style BBQ hosted the dinner at Donna Miracle’s house in the Battlefield subdivision after the golf scramble, and most everyone left very satisfied. The barbecue beef and chicken were delicious, and the banana pudding was the best. Thank you, Smitty’s Southern Style BBQ.

Eastern Kentucky University golf bags were auctioned off at both dinners to support the Ed Miracle Scholarship Foundations. Many thanks to EKU Women’s golf coach, Mandy Moore, for making this possible.

Donations are tax deductible and can be made at www.edmiraclefoundation.org. The Ed Miracle Scholarship fund has been designated a public charity 501(c)3 by the Internal Revenue Service.
