Diamond Rio came to town. The rain stopped. The crowd sat back and were treated to a special evening at Chenault Winery. My two dates, Momma and Darlene, enjoyed every minute.
Driving out Barnes Mill Road to the show, a fool passed our car on a double yellow line. When we got to the top of the hill at Chenault Winery, there was the fool who passed me. The deputy sheriffs directed us back to VIP parking, and I let Momma and Darlene out at the front gate and parked the car.
We got our VIP seats and sat down at our table and moved to another table when we figured out that we were at a reserved table. When Diamond Rio started their show, I helped my mother walk out to the grassy area reserved for the VIP section.
Next, Momma said “I cannot see Diamond Rio.” At that very moment, I made the decision it was time to go down front. I asked a nice Chenault Winery employee who was driving a golf cart if he would take my mother, Darlene, and me down front. The gentleman graciously obliged, and mother was transported down front.
Then, Rob Stinson who is a member of the Madison County Sheriff’s department and member of security at Chenault Winery handed me a chair for my mother. My mother, who happens to be known as Miss Meijer, was greeted by several of her customers.
Immediately thereafter, Mom said “I hope they play One More Time.” Guess what? You guessed it, Diamond Rio broke into One More Time for my mother! Then, Mom told a friend that she had the song played for my father at his funeral in 2009. Next thing I know, everyone is crying.
Mom had a great time just like everyone in attendance. Diamond Rio played most of their hits plus Born To Be Wild, one of my favorites. Unbelievable and I Believe were two songs that this writer really enjoyed.
In addition, Diamond Rio played Meet Me In the Middle, their debut song which became the band’s first single and first #1 hit. To say it another way, Diamond Rio was the first band to debut their first #1 song on the Hot Country Song chart. Finally, their harmonies were some of the best!
Thankfully, the rain stayed away, and Mom got to meet The Goodwin Brothers and Goose. Mom got her picture taken with Jonathan Goodwin, William Goodwin, and Chase Bush who happens to be another American Idol contestant from Kentucky! I promised to take my mother to hear the Goodwin Brothers and will honor this promise.
It’s time to call it a night, or morning after looking at the clock. Thank you again Diamond Rio and especially Marty Roe. Thank you, Rob Stinson, for making my mother comfortable. Thank you, Chenault Winery and Jonathan Goodwin, for bringing another awesome act to Madison County. Thank you, Jonathan, William, and Chase, for taking the time to meet my mother and posing for a picture.
Also, thanks to Corey Kenton for introducing me to Korey Hunt who was filling in on the keyboards for Diamond Rio. By the way, Korey Hunt’s regular gig is as the keyboard player for Luke Combs. It was an awesome night and wonderful show!
