On Friday, January 27, 2023, the Rockcastle County Grand Jury returned an indictment as a result of an extensive investigation relating to the death of a 7-month-old infant in Rockcastle County. This investigation began on August 2, 2022.
Post 11 Lead Detective James Royal recently presented this case to the Rockcastle County Grand Jury, who returned indictments on the infant’s mother, Kirsten A. Durham, 23 of Mount Vernon, and her then-boyfriend, Johnathon K. Durbin, 32 also of Mount Vernon. Both individuals have been indicted on one (1) count of Manslaughter 2nd Degree, and one (1) count of Criminal Abuse 2nd Degree- Child 12 or under.
Both individuals have been taken into custody. Detective Royal is continuing the investigation.
