There has been a rash of ‘funny money’ circulating in the area. In Madison County, officials warned businesses recently of an influx of fake money that was marked for “motion picture use only.” Many of those bills got spent locally despite saying they were fake right on the bill.
Now the Wolfe County Sheriff’s office is notifying the public of more counterfeit money being used in and around that area. The department say they have received multiple calls reporting the use of counterfeit money and have actively been investigating all reports.
All business owners and community members are urged to be cautious and check the serial numbers. All of the bills they have found have been 20’s, and all have the same serial number: PL 5680964 G
