Commercial building burns leaving families displaced and new business destroyed in Irvine

The Estill County Fire Department responded to the location of Juicy Burger Restaurant on Richmond Road in Irvine. The call came in around 11:30, that one of the apartments above the restaurant was on fire. 

Crews arrived on the scene to a major fire, with flames blowing out the front, roof, and both ends of the building. No injuries were reported, but three families were displaced that lived in the apartments above the restaurant. 

The Red Cross was called in to assist those families. The commercial buildings lower level was also home to a new business, the Juicy Burger, that has just recently opened.

All fire departments that responded were able to get the blaze under control and extinguished late Tuesday afternoon. In addition to the Estill County Fire Department, the Irvine Fire Department, Miller’s Creek Fire Department, Waco Fire Department, and Kirksville Fire Department all assisted in battling the fire. 

While fighting this fire, calls simultaneously came in of grass fires and brush fires in separate locations in the area due to high winds, Red Lick Fire Department and Hargett Fire Department were utilized to battle those blazes. 

The building that housed the apartments and the restaurant was determined to be a total loss upstairs, while the bottom level and restaurant sustained major water damage. 

Muncie stated the cause of the fire has yet to be determined, but added the Kentucky State Police were on the scene and there will be an ongoing investigation into the cause of today’s fire.
