A traffic checkpoint stop this week resulted in one man being arrested on drug charges. The Powell County Sheriff’s office says that on Tuesday May 23, 2023, Deputy Hunter Martin was assisting the Kentucky State Police at the checkpoint set up at the 16mm on the Mountain Parkway off ramp. One of the vehicles driven by Jeremy Spencer, age 36 of Campton, entered the checkpoint when, according to reports, K9 Patan of the Clay City Police Department alerted to the odor of narcotics on the vehicle Spencer was operating.
The resulting investigation netted approximately 29 grams of suspected fentanyl that was located during the search of the vehicle. Spencer was arrested and lodged into the Powell County Detention Center on the following charges.
Aggravated Traff in Controlled Substance (> or = 28 gms Fentanyl) and resisting arrest.
