The 2022 Richmond Parks and Recreation 4th of July celebration was a day to remember. Despite predicted hot temperatures and humidity, and the threat of a storm cell that seemed to time itself in conjunction with the planned fireworks, it was a great night.
The cloud cover and breeze made the outside conditions very enjoyable, and the pop up storms seemed to considerately dissipate to make way for an exceptional fireworks show that lasted nearly 20 minutes.
The day was full of great musical entertainment on the main stage, dozens of food vendors, and for the first time ever, alcohol was allowed openly which drew out great vendors like West Sixth brewery and local notables Chenault Vineyards and Dreaming Creek Brewery. Although the police presence was more than adequate to patrol such a large event, officers moods seemed overwhelmingly to be let everyone have a great time and be festive.
Erin Moore with Richmond Parks and Rec estimated the crowd around 10,000 for the day.
It’s hard to imagine the work that goes into all the logistics of pulling off this event annually, and the City of Richmond again demonstrated why this is such a wonderful place to live in. WBON thanks the dozens of city workers who spend their 4th holiday, directing traffic, reuniting lost children with parents, coordinating, patrolling, keeping everyone safe, preparing and cleaning up the park, responding to all the pop up problems and issues and making this a wonderful tradition for Independence Day for our great city.
It does not go unnoticed.
