The City of Booneville is doing periodic shut offs to their water customers today.
The City says this due to high usage last night in all areas of the County. They state they will try to keep the outages to three or four hours, but may have to be longer.
This comes a day after a system wide boil water advisory was issued for Owsley County, Saul/Whoopflera area of Perry County, and the Buncombe area of Jackson County. They say excess water loss due to customer leaks is making it difficult to maintain water in the system tanks.
Water crews found six houses yesterday that had major water leaks and didn’t know. This, coupled with customers running their water to prevent frozen pipes, has put an excessive strain on the water system.
They are asking everyone to check their own homes and the homes of any neighbors that might not be able to.
The water company says they understand the inconvenience, and are working hard to get this situation remedied as soon as possible.
