Christmas Lights in Richmond

By R. David Shew

Enjoyed the Christmas musical, To Us a Child is Born, and the 100th birthday celebration for Jean Boley at the First Presbyterian Church Sunday. The punch and birthday cake were my favorites.  The ladies serving did a fabulous job. Oh yes, we did light the second Advent candle of Peace during the service.

After these two celebrations, it was time for an afternoon of rest and relaxation. My easy chair was calling me. Football and golf could not hold my attention, and after a late night of basketball, a nap made perfect sense.

Next, the weather was cooperating, but the outdoor Christmas lights did not work. My outdoor Christmas tree needs some help. Maybe, someone will come up with an idea this week for me.

As the sun went down, it was time for a milkshake and a drive through town to view Christmas lights. It seems like blowup Christmas items are in vogue more and more. Mom’s next-door neighbor on Pleasant Ridge in Deacon Hills has a yard full of Christmas decorations. There is a massive display in Grey Oaks that Santa can see from the North Pole.

There is a nice yard full of decorations at the corner of Spinnaker and Anna Hume Drive in Ash Park. The reindeer blowup is my favorite. Also, Santa is everywhere this time of the year. There is a gigantic Santa on Bay Colony Drive, and some very nice decorations on Highland Lake Drive in Bay Colony Subdivision next to Gibson Bay Golf Course.

Thank you to all who take the time to decorate their homes and yards for Christmas. It helps me get into the Christmas spirit.
