After the tragic death of a young Madison County man, friend and accomplished musician Nic Cassetta is organizing an event to celebrate the life of 23-year-old Austin Short, and as a benefit for his family.
Cassetta says he first met Austin, when he came onto HWY 52 off the Eastern Bypass and lost a sprocket on his motorcycle and laid it down. “I was broken down on the side of the road when Austin, and others helped him get his bike loaded into a truck. They got me and the bike off the road and to Bernie’s Motorcycle Shop.
Cassetta says “you don’t forget things like that. Austin would come to some of my shows, and we were always tight after we met.”
Cassetta, who plays a regular acoustic set at Galaxy Entertainment Center on Mondays, decided he would do something more this Monday. “I started getting some gift cards from several great local businesses to raffle, then others started coming up with ways to raise some money for the family.”
Cassetta says his band saw what he was wanting to do, and volunteered on the spot to come play, then other musicians contacted him, as well as others wanting to contribute.
The event is scheduled for this Monday, August 28th 7 pm at Galaxy Bowling and Entertainment Center in Richmond.
“I hope this event can be something good for Austins friends and family who have been devastated by this tragedy. As a musician, I have a big platform and doing things like this makes what I do worthwhile, Cassetta added.
