As many Richmondites are well aware, our Water Street near downtown has gone through many transformations, including the latest update and roadwork, which has, as you can see, shut down part of the historical area.
We spoke to local business owners about how this has impacted their businesses, and who noted that the construction to fix the continually-flooded roadway is ahead of schedule.
Although business has been impacted, City Manager Rob Minerich also weighed in on the topic, and said that this has been a long-awaited road project that will soon remedy the recurring flooding issues. Minerich says that the project is ahead of schedule as both phases 2 and 3 were combined, with an end date in sight around Christmas.
Minerich applauds the work of the construction team as well as the engineers, who developed the strategy to keep the chronically-flooded street dry.
Stay tuned as WBONtv will follow up with this project, as it makes its way down the historical street in the heart of Richmond. Also make sure to support these businesses, owned and operated by local Madison Countians. Watch for the signs that direct traffic so that you are still able to access Subway, Pally’s, Wink’s, and Kentucky Shelf Life on Water Street.
