***UPDATE*** 9:20 PM. The Madison County Sheriff’s office now confirms human remains, believed to be the shooter, have officially been confirmed in the charred remains of the residence.
**UPDATE**6:30 PM. The Madison County Sheriff’s office reports that what was first believed to be a body in the home, upon further investigation, could not be verified in that part of the home. Cadaver dogs have been brought to the scene to continue looking for proof of human remains.
**UPDATE** 5:20 PM- A body has been confirmed discovered inside the home. Madison County Coroner on scene.
ORIGINAL STORY
WBON has been following developments in a shooting incident that occurred earlier this afternoon in Boone Village subdivision off Boonesborough Road.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office reports a call for service came in around 2:10p today in reference to a shots fired complaint.
Upon arrival, deputies located one female victim who had sustained gunshot wounds. The woman was transported by Madison County EMS to UK Hospital for treatment. Her condition is unknown at this time.
Madison County Fire Department, and local volunteer fire agencies were also actively working a structure fire at the residence where the victim was discovered. According to eyewitnesses, the dwelling may be a total loss. Fire crews are credited for spraying and protecting adjacent homes to keep the fire from spreading to those structures.
It is believed at this time, the shooter remained in the burning home. Further investigation will be made once entry can be made into the residence.
All others in the residence were safely vacated and authorities say the situation is contained. All structures and other residents are considered safe, they added.
