Berea Man Challenges Officers on Alleged Shoplifting, Still Gets Arrested

A Berea man allegedly admitted to shoplifting, but not after giving officers a bit of a hard time in the process when he was questioned.

According to the citation, 51 year old Gregory Botkins was encountered by officers leaving JC penny in Richmond for the shoplifting complaint. He was pulled over and he allegedly cussed at officers saying he was not in the store, but a witness attested that he had been the one to attempt to take two pairs of jeans.

When Botkins was searched, syringes and suspected methamphetamine were located, as well as a note that had two types of jeans written on it. Botkins allegedly laughed this fact off, but then told officers he did in fact attempt to shoplift. He was charged with theft by unlawful taking and possession of a controlled substance.
