The city of Berea has approved use of the funding the city received from the Community Development Block Grant program. The funds from the grant will be used to build new low income housing in the city as well as for renovations of current housing. The city will also be using the funding to improve the Walnut Meadow pump station.
President of Berea College Lyle Roelofs spoke during meeting and praised the many trail projects the city is undertaking saying that the trails are beneficial to students and bring in tourist as well. He also said that the college hopes to work more closely with the city in 2019.
Berea’s Room in the Inn Program announced that the program has been a success and that the program has provided shelter to twenty men, six woman, and two children. Room in the Inn is a program that allows local churches, businesses or other entities to house homeless for one night a week. Currently five churches and one business provide shelter and the program is looking for another volunteer so shelter can be provided every night of the week. A committee to review and make changes to the code of conduct for government officials has been established. It has been over a century since the code of conduct was last updated.
Lastly, the public comments section of the upcoming City of Berea Strategic Planning Workshop will be held at the Madison Southern High School cafeteria on March 7th at 5:30 P.M.
