Voting in Madison County appeared to be very ‘light’ earlier on election day Tuesday.
Madison County Clerk Kenny Barger stated the turnout in Madison was only around an astonishing 5% midday today. Barger said expectations are for only 5000-6000 total votes being cast today. That is not a lot from a county with nearly 75,000 registered voters according to the State Board of Elections.
Secretary of State Michael Adams predicted earlier only around a 15% turnout statewide today. If Madison County is any reflection, that may be optimistic. There were some areas reporting seeing an uptick in voters later in the day today, however.
Although 15% sounds very low, this is reflective of the primary election last year as well, with most counties in our service area within a few points of that figure.
