Heart disease is one of our nation’s most common health problems – the leading cause of death for Americans age 35 and older. Baptist Health Richmond is introducing advancements in the medical technology used to diagnose and treat this condition. In an effort to help their physicians provide faster and more efficient cardiac care to patients, BHR is announcing the opening of a new state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization X-ray lab from Philips Healthcare.
The medical facility’s cardiovascular team conducts minimally invasive procedures on the new system to treat a wide range of clinical problems including coronary artery disease – a leading cause of heart disorders in the U.S. These catheter-based procedures may reduce the risks and recovery time found in traditional surgical approaches. The benefits of catheter-based interventions include shorter hospital stays, reduced recovery time without the pain of a large incision, and less visible surgical scarring. Officials say these procedures can be performed on both the heart and peripheral blood vessels.
Baptist Health is inviting the public to join them for the Cardiac Cath Lab Virtual Open House, in partnership with the Richmond Chamber of Commerce, on July 31st at 10 a.m. Community members can stream the open house on the Baptist Health Richmond or Richmond Chamber of Commerce Facebook pages to see the new state-of-the-art lab and hear from Baptist Health Medical Group cardiologists Larry Todd Breeding, MD, and Scott Cook, MD, explain the significance of this new technology for the community.
