API: Revised Free Trade Agreement affects Kentuckians

The natural gas and oil industry supports more than 80,000 jobs in the state of Kentucky. The industry pays over $3 billion in wages, and contributes almost $8 billion to the state’s economy.

The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was recently renegotiated and renamed as the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

According to the President and CEO of American Petroleum Institute, Mike Sommers, as the U.S is now the number 1 producer of oil and natural gas, having other markets and free trade agreements in place will help market American products as quickly as possible.

Mexico and Canada are United State’s number 1 and 2 consumers of American products. Therefore, maintaining a strong trade relationship with Canada and Mexico is crucial for Kentucky consumers and the American economy.

Sommers is encouraging people to help get USMCA passed by the Congress. Watch the video below to learn more.

If you want to learn more about the API or the USMCA, you can go to api.org.
