According to Richmond Police Department, a hand-written letter along with an SD card containing nearly 800 videos and images was sent to the police department. The letter read, “Gary Travis Kerns took these pictures”.
After an investigation, police determined that the SD card with the images did in fact belong to Kerns. After a search warrant was executed, police seized multiple gaming systems, 6 tablets, 5 computers, and a handful of USB and memory cards from Kerns’s home.
Police report that Kerns was mirandized, and he allegedly admitted he was responsible for the images and vides on the SD card, but said that he got them off of websites on the internet.
He claimed that he had distributed these images to a friend when he spoke with police, but that the friend got mad at him which resulted in the anonymous tip out of spite.
Police added that Kerns said a 13 year old girl was swimming at his mother’s house years ago, and he allegedly placed his cellphone in a bathroom and recorded the girl nude while changing into her swimsuit. He allegedly told police he kept this video.
Police add that 5 grams of marijuana were also seized from the residence during this investigation. He was arrested and charged with possession of viewing matter portraying sexual performance by a minor, distribution of such matter, video voyeurism, and possession of marijuana.
