Animal rescue underway at residence on Lee/Estill line

Another sad case of animal neglect has been discovered at a residence near the Lee/Estill County line this week. The Lee County Animal Control agent Emery Crawford says upwards of 18 dogs and puppies are in varying states of medical and nutritional neglect.

On Tuesday October 17, 2023, Lee County Animal Control took possession of 4 of the worst dogs. They returned Wednesday and the owners surrendered 5 more animals.

The Paws for Cause animal rescue organization described the scene at residence as animals of various ages infested with fleas and ticks, worms, hair loss, and gross malnutrition.

Curry says he is currently trying to work with the owners at this time to try to avoid bringing charges by having them take corrective measures immediately.

As Lee County does not have a shelter, all animals are being placed at the Estill County Animal Shelter.  The shelter and rescue are asking anyone who could help foster or help with donations to please contact the Animal Shelter in Estill County or the Pause for Cause Rescue on their respective Facebook pages.

We will have more on this story on our LIVE at FIVE news cast today on WBON-TV9.
