Richmond Police were dispatched to a fight in progress earlier this week. It was reported that two female subjects were in the middle of 5th Street, throwing things from a vehicle near a vacant house.
When the officer arrived at the scene, they observed Denise Conner of Richmond sitting beside a car with the driver’s door open. Another female subject was located sitting on the front porch of a nearby home. Both women told the officer that they were just friends and that they were just arguing.
Conner was reportedly observed to have slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and constricted pupils. According to the citation, she would later admit to officials that she had taken Suboxone a few hours prior.
Police then noticed a red purse sitting in the driver’s seat of Conner’s vehicle. When asked for consent to search the bag, Conner reportedly grabbed for the purse. The officer then attempted to grab the purse out of her hands, due to the possibility that a weapon could have been concealed within it.
When the officer obtained the purse, they noticed that it was “abnormally heavy”. Conner was asked if there was a gun inside the purse, to which she reportedly stated that there wasn’t. Police placed Conner under arrest and handcuffed her. The bag was then searched and Clonazpam, suspected marijuana, Methamphetamine, and a THC vape pin with cartridges were all allegedly located within.
Also among the contents of the purse, was a loaded pistol. Conner told the officer that she was sorry and that she didn’t want to tell them about the gun, because she was a convicted felon.
Conner was then transported to the Madison County Detention Center and charged with the following offenses:
