Officials of the Laurel County Sheriff’s Department are currently investigating an apparent road rage incident which occurred along US 25E in Laurel County on Wednesday afternoon.
Investigators report that a dispute apparently occurred between two drivers, following an alleged incident along US 25E near the junction of U.S. 25 in southern Laurel County. The two vehicles that were reportedly involved, a full-size pickup truck containing two occupants and an SUV containing three occupants, then pulled off US 25 and onto Hanes Baker Road nearby.
The driver of the SUV, later identified as 40 year-old Jack Davis of Barbourville, reportedly exited his vehicle and a confrontation between the two drivers resulted in shots being fired from the driver of the pickup truck. Following this, Davis was left seriously injured from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to Baptist Healthcare Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
An autopsy will be conducted on Davis’ body Thursday in Frankfort. The driver of the truck was not injured during the altercation. Investigators recovered 2 semi-automatic pistols at the scene and numerous individuals have been interviewed.
Upon completion of the investigation, Lead Investigator Laurel Sheriff’s Lieutenant Chris Edwards will make a presentation on this death investigation before a Laurel County grand jury.
