Richmond Police recently took a man into custody, and charged him with theft of mail matter. According to the citation, police were dispatched to Walmart in Richmond in reference to a drug complaint involving a male panhandler allegedly under the influence.
Police made contact with Eric C. Hodson, who had a warrant out for his arrest for failure to appear. When searched after being taken into police custody, officers allege they discovered three pieces of of mail matter addressed to three separate individuals to the same address.
The citation continues that officers also discovered two other pieces of mail addressed to Hodson, at the same address. Hodson told police that he had lived with multiple people, but could not identify two of the names on the mail matter. He also allegedly advised to police that they did not give him permission to have these pieces of mail. All three envelopes had been opened, according to police, and Hodson admitted that he had the items for a week and did not attempt to contact the rightful owners.
When law enforcement contacted one of the owners of aforementioned mail, she advised that she had not lived at the location for three years and confirmed that it was stolen. The citation states that police were unable to locate the other two victims at the time of arrest.
As a result, Hodson was arrested and charged with the active warrant and theft of mail matter and remains lodged in the Madison County Detention Center.
