The Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to C & M Auto dealership on Irvine Road last Wednesday, April 26, around 8:30 a.m. with Waco Fire Department and the Madison County Fire Department for a vehicle fire.
By the time the fire could be extinguished, three vehicles were totally destroyed and the heat from the fire damaged two additional vehicles.
In the ensuing investigation, officers obtained video surveillance that showed an unknown male enter the premises and is near where the fire started. The video also shows the male getting underneath the vehicle and is believed to be attempting to remove the catalytic convertor, which led to the fire.
The continued investigation led to the identification and arrest of Stephen K. Clifton; 32 years old of Richmond.
Clifton was charged with Criminal Mischief 1st Degree. He was lodged in the Madison County Detention Center.
