Alleged killer of Scott County Deputy identified, now charged

Alleged killer of Scott County Deputy identified, now charged

WBON-TV9 has learned the identity of the man who was taken into custody tonight for allegedly killing a Scott County Sheriff’s Deputy Monday afternoon. The man is 45-year-old Steven Wayne Sheanshang of Georgetown. Sheanshangs past charges include thefts, receiving stolen property, and being a persistent felony offender.

At a press conference Monday evening, the Scott County Sheriff’s office confirmed that Deputy Caleb Conley died as a result of the gunshot he suffered stemming from that traffic stop of the suspect late this afternoon in Scott County.

Sheanshang was pursued and later apprehended in Lexington. Sheanshang has not been processed, so the extent of the charges to be levied against him are yet to be determined by investigators. There will be more details of the ordeal forthcoming throughout the evening, as well as more information on Sheanshang.

Conley leaves behind a wife and family.

The incident began in Scott County at around 5:00 p.m. Monday on I-75 at mile marker 127. WBON-TV9 will update this story as more information is made available.

***UPDATE*** Sheangshang was booked in the Fayette County Detention Center early this Tuesday morning and currently charged with Assault 1st, Robbery 1st, Robbery 2nd, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, and tampering with physical evidence all stemming from yesterday’s incident. Those charges are likely to be upgraded.
