On February 17, Richmond Police officer received a call about a reckless driver on the interstate.
Officers observed the vehicle going East on the Eastern Bypass. The vehicle could not maintain its lane and was using the opposite turn signals from the way he was turning. The driver was identified as Harold Marcum of Richmond. According to the reports, Marcum veered into the oncoming lane and almost hit another driver head on.
The officer allegedly initiated the traffic stop but Marcum would not stop. The officer said he followed Marcum until an unrelated car pulled out in front of Marcum which helped with the traffic stop. Officers manages to pull the car over and observed a case of beer in the passenger seat and an open beer container wedged between the seat and the center console.
Officers administered a field sobriety test and Marcum allegedly did not pass. Marcum told police that he only drank half a beer and could not stop for the officer because he was eating his chips. Marcum claimed that he did not take any drugs except his blood pressure medicine.
Officers found 62 pills but Marcum denied the drug were his. He said he was delivering them for a friend.
Marcum was taken to the Madison County Detention Center and was charged with driving motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs/etc, driving DUI suspended license, possession of open alcohol beverage container in motor vehicle and careless driving.
